Energy Vision honors RNG leaders as diesel tops $6 per gallon
Non-profit awards Capital Region Water, OPAL Fuels, and Cespira for scaling renewable natural gas from organic waste amid record diesel prices.
Key takeaways
- Energy Vision awards three RNG scaling leaders
- Diesel above $6/gallon drives alternative fuel adoption
- North American RNG facilities grew from 31 to over 600 since 2011
At its 20th annual Leadership Awards, Energy Vision recognized three organizations accelerating renewable natural gas (RNG) adoption. Capital Region Water, serving Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, launched a $27 million Energy Recovery Improvements Project this year that converts biogas to RNG and injects it into the utility pipeline. OPAL Fuels, the nation’s second-largest RNG distributor supplying about 12% of US RNG, provides vertically integrated production and delivery. Cespira, a Volvo Group and Aetherion Technologies joint venture, operates over 10,000 HPDI-powered trucks in 30-plus countries with a Vancouver R&D center and European manufacturing plant.
The awards come as diesel prices exceed $6 per gallon, pressuring fleets and stimulating clean-fuel adoption. Energy Vision President Matt Tomich noted RNG facilities in North America have grown from 31 in 2011 to over 600 today.
